Marco Guida appointed referee for Greece vs Netherlands Nations League match

UEFA has appointed Italian referee Marco Guida to officiate the upcoming Nations League match between Greece and the Netherlands. This marks the first time Guida will referee a match involving the Dutch national team, making him the 542nd different referee in the team's history.

Guida is a familiar figure in Dutch football, having previously officiated European matches for Ajax, AZ, Feyenoord, and PSV. Notably, in 2019, he issued a red card to AZ defender Jonas Svensson during a Europa League match against Partizan Belgrade.

Guida previously drew attention for his decision to avoid refereeing matches involving the Naples-based club Napoli. Residing in Naples with his family, he stated that the fear of potential repercussions from officiating errors in his home city influenced his personal choice to decline such assignments.

Other Dutch officials will also be active during this Nations League round. Allard Lindhout is set to lead the officiating team for the Ireland versus Austria match, while Dutch officials Dennis Higler and Richard Martens will serve on the VAR team for the Wales versus Norway fixture.
