Marco Masini wins 2004 Sanremo Music Festival
Marco Masini won the 54th Sanremo Music Festival on March 6, 2004, with his song ‘L’uomo volante’. The victory was secured via televoting, with Masini receiving 295,639 votes, nearly double that of runner-up Mario Rosini, who placed second with ‘Sei la vita mia’. Linda took third place with ‘Aria, sole, terra e mare’.
The 2004 edition, held at the Teatro Ariston, featured a significant format change as the traditional division between ‘Campioni’ (Champions) and ‘Nuove Proposte’ (Newcomers) was removed, resulting in a single unified competition. The festival was hosted by Simona Ventura, supported by Gene Gnocchi, Paola Cortellesi, and Maurizio Crozza, with Tony Renis serving as artistic director.
Despite the musical prestige of the event, the festival faced competition from television trends, as the reality program ‘Grande Fratello’ surpassed Sanremo in viewership during the third evening of the competition.
