Marco Nanini apologizes for accessibility controversy in Porto Alegre

Actor Marco Nanini issued a public apology following a controversy during a performance of the play ‘Fim de Partida’ in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The incident occurred on October 18, when the production decided to remove a sign language (Libras) interpreter from the stage.

Nanini explained that the decision was driven by technical difficulties. He stated that the interpreter's position caused shadows to be projected onto the set, which interfered with the play's precise lighting and his ability to see the scene. He noted that the production suggested moving the interpreter to a different location, but when no agreement was reached, the interpreter was removed from the stage.

In his statement, Nanini acknowledged that the situation created the impression of excluding the deaf community and admitted the moment could have been handled with more sensitivity and empathy. He committed to working with the theatrical community to ensure better technical rehearsals for accessible performances in the future, emphasizing that accessibility is a fundamental part of the show rather than a production detail.
