Marco Olivi Mocenigo restores historic Modena salumeria before his passing

Marco Olivi Mocenigo, a 42‑year‑old entrepreneur and chef, revived the historic Modena salumeria ‘Telesforo Fini’ at Corso Canalchiaro 139, converting it into the modern Bottega San Francesco. The reopening, held last year, attracted local food enthusiasts and highlighted products from small regional producers. Mocenigo worked with families such as his mother Elena, who supplied traditional recipes, and collaborated with chef Roberto Carcangiu, who described him as “a gentle, correct person out of his time.”

Mocenigo died on Friday night after a prolonged battle with illness. His death was widely mourned in Modena, and his funeral is scheduled for Monday, 3 August, at the San Francesco d’Assisi church where the shop’s inauguration took place.
