Marco Poggi breaks silence in televised interview, reviving Garlasco murder case

Nineteen years after Chiara Poggi was killed in Garlasco, her brother Marco Poggi gave his first televised interview on the programme Quarto Grado (Rete 4) on 5 June 2026. He said he had never accepted the media exposure surrounding his sister’s death and complained that “the case was played with for a year on Chiara’s death and life”. Poggi rejected rumours linking him to drug trafficking, calling them “pure fantasy”, and condemned the false narratives that have damaged his sister’s memory.

He confirmed that the reopened investigation by the Pavia prosecutor now focuses on Andrea Sempio, the only suspect under formal inquiry, while the family still considers Alberto Stasi, previously convicted, to be the real killer. The prosecutor has ordered additional technical examinations, including a psychiatric assessment of Sempio and a DNA‑extraction review. Poggi also described being subjected to phone‑tap interceptions and expressed disappointment at being kept “on the sidelines” during the inquiry.
