Marco Rubio declines to comment on India's domestic protests

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has declined to comment on recent protests in India, characterizing the country's political demonstrations as a domestic matter. While visiting India, Rubio responded to inquiries regarding allegations from United Nations experts concerning the handling of protests by opposition parties and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Rubio described the term ‘UN experts’ as an ‘oxymoron’ and emphasized that as a democracy, India's political processes and the expression of differing opinions should be navigated by its own people. He distinguished between peaceful democratic discourse and acts of vandalism or arson, noting that the ability to engage in political debate is a vital feature of democratic societies.

This stance follows statements made by Indian diplomats at the United Nations General Assembly. Indian representative Barkha Tamrakar argued that human rights should not be used as a tool for political pressure or selective targeting, opposing the use of unverified allegations to characterize the nation negatively.
