White House bars CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from presidential workspace
The Trump administration has restricted White House access for journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. President Trump announced the decision on Friday, accusing the outlets of publishing “fake news” and negative coverage. The White House stated that while the First Amendment protects the right to publish, it does not guarantee access to the presidential press pool or workspace.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the move, clarifying that the outlets are not banned from operating entirely, but are simply no longer permitted to use workspaces within the White House complex. Vice President JD Vance also supported the decision, characterizing it as a matter of “basic fairness” against what he described as far-left propaganda.
In response, CNN, MS NOW, and Politico filed a federal lawsuit on September 21 to challenge the restrictions, citing violations of their First Amendment rights. Despite the ban, Rubio was recently seen interacting with journalists from these outlets during a press reception in New York City.
