Marco Rubio to visit Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru for security and trade talks

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to conduct a diplomatic tour of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru from September 8 to September 10, 2026. The mission aims to strengthen strategic alliances in the Andean region and enhance cooperation on security, trade, and the fight against narcoterrorism.

In Colombia, Rubio will meet with President Abelardo de la Espriella. Discussions are expected to focus on U.S. support for earthquake recovery efforts following the August 10 disaster that killed approximately 300 people, as well as potential trade discussions including the removal of tariffs on Colombian products.

In Ecuador, Rubio will meet with President Daniel Noboa to continue cooperation regarding military efforts against organized crime and drug trafficking. In Peru, the visit will include meetings with the administration of President Keiko Fujimori to reinforce bilateral ties and combat narcoterrorism.
