Marco Valenti to present medieval archaeology lecture in Abbadia Isola

Marco Valenti will return to the Abbadia Isola stage on September 1 at 21:30 for “Scavare Castelli II — Dentro le mura: spazi, lavoro, gerarchie” (Excavating Castles II — Inside the walls: spaces, work, hierarchies). This event serves as the conclusion to the summer season in Monteriggioni.

Following a previous session that focused on what lies beneath stone walls and towers—such as wooden villages, huts, and ancient settlements—this second installment explores the internal life of castle enclosures. The presentation will examine the diverse functions of medieval castles, ranging from populated village-castles and noble residences to military outposts and agricultural hubs.

Using well-documented archaeological cases from Tuscany, the lecture will use stratigraphic research to illuminate daily life, including trades, diets, conflicts, and social coexistence, treating the Middle Ages through verifiable data.
