Marcopolo introduces recycled PET upholstery in G8 TEC bus line

Marcopolo has introduced recycled PET fabric for the seat upholstery in its new G8 TEC bus line. Developed in partnership with DINI Têxtil, the material is produced entirely from post-consumer recycled PET bottles.

Each vehicle in the G8 TEC line utilizes the equivalent of approximately 3,000 PET bottles for its seat covers. The manufacturing process for this fabric consumes less water and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 60% compared to using virgin polyester. The material has received the IATF 16949 international automotive quality certification, with testing confirming it matches conventional fabrics in softness, touch, and wear resistance.

The project utilizes a ‘monomaterial’ design concept, which is intended to facilitate easier disassembly and recycling at the end of the vehicle's operational life, supporting circular economy principles.
