Marcos Freire joins Caja Rural development team

Marcos Freire, the 20-year-old son of three-time world champion Óscar Freire, will join the Caja Rural-Alea development team for the next two seasons. This move follows his two-year tenure with the UAE Team Emirates Gen Z squad.

Despite the change in team, UAE Team Emirates intends to maintain a connection with the rider. Freire will continue to work with the Emirati team’s coach and nutritionist while competing in the Spanish ProTeam structure to further his progression as an under-23 cyclist.

Freire’s recent performances include a second-place finish in the third stage of the Volta a Portugal do Futuro. His transition to Caja Rural aims to provide a new environment to develop his potential after a season spent largely in support roles.
