A federal court in Florida has scheduled a jury trial for November 30 for Deny Manuel Sepúlveda de León and Oliver Guevara Rodríguez. Both men are members of the Dominican Republic’s National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and face charges of conspiracy and attempted cocaine distribution in the United States.

The defendants were arrested on September 28, 2026, at Miami International Airport while traveling as part of an official Dominican delegation to Washington, D.C. U.S. prosecutors allege the agents participated in transporting 35 kilograms of cocaine from Barahona to Santo Domingo, purportedly using state resources, and agreed to receive five kilograms of the drug as payment.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and began in February 2026. The case is being overseen by federal judge Darrin P. Gayles. If convicted, the defendants face a minimum of 10 years in prison and potentially life imprisonment.
