Marcos Highway traffic management and drainage projects launched

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has partnered with the local government units of Pasig, Marikina, Antipolo, and Cainta to implement a unified traffic management strategy along Marcos Highway. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to reduce congestion and road obstructions by prioritizing the clearing of illegally parked vehicles, unauthorized structures, and unofficial terminals within their respective jurisdictions.

Simultaneously, a major drainage improvement project is underway along the Marcos Highway corridor. The project involves constructing a 3.7-kilometer interceptor pipeline using high-density polyethylene pipes to connect Halang Creek to the Marikina River. Designed to handle up to 11 cubic meters of stormwater per second, the system aims to improve drainage capacity during heavy rainfall.

The MMDA has advised motorists to expect heavier traffic and potential delays in Pasig, Marikina, Cainta, and Antipolo due to the ongoing construction. The drainage project commenced on August 24, 2026, and is scheduled for completion within 330 days.
