Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address Triggers Legislative Prep
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will deliver his annual State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 27, a constitutional report that does not, by law, constitute a national policy. Legal analysts note that the SONA serves as a political speech and an administrative guide rather than a binding legal instrument.
The Philippine House of Representatives says it is prepared to manage both Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial and the upcoming deliberations on the proposed 2027 national budget. Deputy Speaker Jefferson Khonghun said dedicated teams are assigned to each task, emphasizing that the impeachment proceeding, expected to last months, will not impede the legislative work on the roughly ₱7.2‑trillion spending plan that the Marcos administration will submit within 30 days after the SONA.
