Marcos Juárez elects Germán Font as mayor, returning Peronism to power
Germán Font, representing the local list Generación MJ, won the mayoral election in Marcos Juárez, Córdoba, marking a historic return for Peronism to the municipality after 53 years. Font secured approximately 46% of the vote, defeating the second-place candidate, Pedro Dellarossa of Marcos Juárez Puede, who received around 20%. Third place went to Gerardo Pasquali with roughly 17%.
The election results represent a significant political shift in a city long considered a stronghold for opposition forces, including the PRO and UCR. Marcos Juárez was famously known as the “kilometer zero” of the Cambiemos alliance in 2014. The victory was attributed to the fragmentation of the opposition, which split into several competing lists.
Governor Martín Llaryora expressed his support for Font, noting his capacity to drive growth in the city. Voter turnout was reported at approximately 62%, a decrease compared to the 2022 elections. Font is scheduled to assume office on December 10.
