Marcos Leonardo faces scrutiny over fitness and performance at Ajax
Ajax striker Marcos Leonardo is facing scrutiny regarding his fitness and match performance following his €19 million transfer to the club. Former player Theo Janssenis has raised concerns about the Brazilian's body fat percentage, suggesting it may be impacting his mobility and energy levels on the pitch. Janssenis noted that while the player may appear fit visually, internal fat levels can affect long-term stamina and power.
In contrast, Ajax observer Mike Verweij reported that while Leonardo has struggled to convert chances in official matches, including recent missed opportunities against FC Sion, his performance during training sessions remains impressive. Verweij noted that Leonardo frequently finds himself in good positions and suggested that his previous statistics at Benfica and in Saudi Arabia indicate he is capable of scoring regularly if he can translate his training form to competitive matches.
