Marcos Paccola trial for homicide rescheduled to 2026

The trial of former city councilman and Military Police Lieutenant Colonel Marcos Eduardo Ticianel Paccola has been rescheduled for the third time. Judge Mônica Catarina Perri set the new date for November 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

Paccola is accused of the 2022 homicide of socio-educational agent Alexandre Miyagawa de Barros, known as “Japão,” in Cuiabá. The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso alleges that the victim was shot three times in the back without the possibility of defense. Paccola’s defense maintains he acted in self-defense and in the fulfillment of legal duty, believing a woman was being assaulted at the time of the incident.

The latest delay follows a request from defense attorney Cláudio Dalledone Junior, who cited a scheduling conflict with another trial in São Paulo. Additionally, the defense has requested that Judge Perri recuse herself from the case, citing a prior personal conflict between the magistrate and the attorney involving a disciplinary complaint. Following the incident in 2022, Paccola was stripped of his mandate by the Cuiabá City Council for breach of parliamentary decorum.
