Marcos Rojo leaves Racing to rejoin Estudiantes
Defender Marcos Rojo has officially parted ways with Racing Club to return to Estudiantes de La Plata. The move follows a period of tension between the 36-year-old player and Racing's management, led by Diego Milito. To facilitate the transfer, Rojo reportedly missed several training sessions and agreed to waive a portion of unpaid wages owed to him by Racing.
Estudiantes will pay approximately $800,000 to compensate for the remaining three months of Rojo's contract with Racing, with additional payments potentially tied to performance milestones. Rojo has met with Estudiantes president Juan Sebastián Verón to finalize terms. If medical evaluations are successful, the defender is expected to sign a contract running through December 2027.
Rojo's return is timed to bolster the Estudiantes defense for the Copa Libertadores semifinals against Flamengo, particularly as teammates Leandro González Pirez and Tomás Palacios face suspensions.
