Marcos Rojo returns to Estudiantes de La Plata from Racing Club
Argentine defender Marcos Rojo is set to return to Estudiantes de La Plata for a third stint following an agreement with Racing Club. The 36-year-old defender sought the move to rejoin his formative club and bolster the squad for the Copa Libertadores semifinals against Flamengo.
The transfer follows intense negotiations between Racing president Diego Milito and Estudiantes leadership. While Milito was initially hesitant to release the player, an agreement was reached involving a compensation package estimated at approximately $1 million. This figure includes a settlement for the remaining months of Rojo's contract and covers debts Racing owed the player for productivity.
Rojo is expected to undergo medical examinations and sign a contract through December 2027. His arrival is seen as a strategic move by Estudiantes manager Alexander Medina to provide veteran leadership in the defense, particularly as key players Leandro González Pírez and Tomás Palacios face suspensions.
