Marcovia, Honduras declares emergency over drought affecting 15,000 families

Mayor Nahúm Cálix announced that the municipal council of Marcovia declared a state of emergency due to a prolonged drought in the Dry Corridor of Honduras. The lack of rain has impacted more than 15,000 families, including fishers, grain growers and livestock producers.

The emergency aims to extend municipal service hours, coordinate aid with the national government and United Nations agencies, and manage resources to mitigate food‑security risks as the current heat spell (canícula) is expected to last until the end of September.
