Marcus Davenport requests release from Chicago Bears and retires
Veteran defensive end Marcus Davenport has been released from the Chicago Bears practice squad following a request from the player. After being signed during the offseason, Davenport made his debut for the Bears in Week 4 against the New York Jets, appearing in 12 defensive snaps.
During his single game with the team, Davenport recorded one tackle and one pressure. Despite his limited playing time, Pro Football Focus assigned him a 70.8 overall grade. Following his release, Davenport has opted to retire from professional football at the age of 30.
Davenport, a former first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, had joined the Bears to reunite with former Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who currently serves in the same role for Chicago.
