Marcus Ericsson wins inaugural Markham IndyCar race

Marcus Ericsson secured victory at the inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham, Ontario, snapping a 63-race winless drought. Driving for Andretti Global, Ericsson executed a late-race charge on the 12-turn street circuit, overtaking Romain Grosjean with five laps remaining to win by approximately 7.5 seconds.

Romain Grosjean, driving for Dale Coyne Racing, finished second after leading a significant portion of the 90-lap race. Grosjean expressed frustration over the narrow margin of defeat, noting that his team had calculated fuel levels to the limit, leaving him unable to defend against Ericsson’s fresher tires.

Will Power completed the podium in third place for Andretti Global. Power’s performance was particularly notable as he recovered from starting 25th following a difficult qualifying session and a grid penalty for an unapproved engine change.

The race was marked by high volatility, including multiple cautions and several incidents on the tight street course. Championship leader Alex Palou finished fourth, maintaining his position in the standings as the series prepares to move to Washington, D.C.
