CSKA Sofia has officially appointed German specialist Markus Gisdol as its new head coach. The 57-year-old, who brings extensive Bundesliga experience from clubs such as Hoffenheim, Hamburg, and Cologne, has signed a contract through the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option for an additional year.

Gisdol, who previously worked as an assistant to Ralf Rangnick at Schalke 04, is known for a high-intensity tactical philosophy centered on aggressive pressing and rapid transitions. He joins the club following a period of leadership transition after the departure of Hristo Yanev.

His coaching staff will include assistant coach Reiner Widmaier, who has experience with clubs like Stuttgart and Schalke 04, along with Jakob Braun and two other specialists. Gisdol is expected to make his competitive debut for the team on October 11 in a match against CSKA 1948.
