Marcus Mariota to miss Commanders preseason due to MCL injury

Washington Commanders backup quarterback Marcus Mariota is expected to miss the remainder of the NFL preseason due to a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. The injury occurred during a preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

With Mariota sidelined, the Commanders will rely on third-string options Sam Hartman and rookie Athan Kaliakmanis. Kaliakmanis, a seventh-round draft pick, showed promise during the game against Miami, completing 6 of 10 passes for 87 yards. The team's coaching staff will evaluate the severity of Mariota's injury to determine his availability for the regular season, where he currently serves as the backup to starter Jayden Daniels.
