Marcus Rashford makes first World Cup start as England beats Panama

England's forward Marcus Rashford earned his first start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the group‑stage match against Panama at the New York‑New Jersey Stadium. The match ended 2‑0 in England's favour, with goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane after the break.

Rashford played the full 90 minutes, registering 63 touches, five shots (one on target) and an 81 % pass completion rate, but did not record a goal or an assist. His performance, while showing flashes of brilliance, included 20 lost possessions – the most of any player on the field.

The win secured top place for England in Group L and set up a Round‑of‑32 clash with Congo. Rashford's showing will be scrutinised by both England and Manchester United as the tournament continues.
