Marcus Rashford returns to Manchester United with new squad number

Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United following an 18-month absence that included loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona. The 28-year-old forward rejoined the squad at the Carrington training complex before traveling to Dublin for the club’s pre-season camp under manager Michael Carrick.

Rashford’s return follows Barcelona’s decision not to trigger a €30 million option to purchase him after a productive season in Spain. While his future at Old Trafford had been subject to intense speculation, the club appears committed to his reintegration. As part of this fresh start, Rashford will wear the number 14 shirt for the 2026/27 campaign, a number he also wore during his time in La Liga.

Manager Michael Carrick confirmed Rashford’s inclusion in the squad for upcoming pre-season fixtures, including a match against Leeds United in Dublin and a scheduled game against AC Milan. Although Rashford has expressed interest in staying at Manchester United, his high weekly wages and the club's desire to manage the squad's structure remain factors in his long-term role. He is expected to use these friendly matches to regain match fitness and prove his value to the new regime.
