Marcy Kaptur and Derek Merrin tied in Ohio 9th District poll
Internal polling from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) shows a dead heat in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District. Democrat incumbent Marcy Kaptur and Republican Derek Merrin are tied, with each candidate receiving 48% support among likely voters, while 4% remain undecided.
The survey, conducted by the DCCC Analytics Department between September 22 and 23, comes following Republican mid-decade redistricting. The memo notes that Kaptur maintains strong support among Democrats (95%) and leads among independent voters.
In the same district, President Donald Trump’s approval rating is significantly negative, with 35% approval and 54% disapproval. This follows a 2024 election in which Trump won the district by 11 points. The DCCC campaign strategy focuses on rising household expenses, such as groceries, gasoline, and healthcare, to differentiate Kaptur from Republican opponents.
