Marcy Kaptur receives union endorsement in Ohio race

A retired union leader has published a letter to the editor in the Toledo Blade endorsing Representative Marcy Kaptur and criticizing her opponent, Derek Merrin, regarding their respective records on labor issues.

The former business manager for IBEW Local 245 praised Kaptur for her commitment to the working people of Ohio’s 9th District, citing her work for farmers, local infrastructure projects like the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway, and her role in establishing a National World War II Memorial.

In contrast, the letter characterizes Merrin as someone who is not a friend to working people, specifically accusing him of supporting efforts to reduce paid sick leave for public employees and backing legislation that would make it more difficult for workers to organize and bargain for wages and safety.
