Mardin families end long-standing feud through peace ceremony
A long-standing feud between the Öner and Kaplan families in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin has been resolved through a formal peace program. The conflict originally began in June following the death of one individual.
Mediation efforts were led by religious scholars, community leaders, and local businessmen, including Bedrettin Seyfettinoğlu, Mehmet Nur Çelik, Serdar Üşenmez, and Hasan Sametoğlu. The reconciliation ceremony took place at the Seydaoğulları Dervish Lodge.
During the event, the two families participated in a ritual of passing under the Quran to symbolize their peace. Religious scholar Muhammed Mehdi Seydaoğulları expressed his satisfaction with the outcome and hoped the event would serve as a model for resolving other local grievances.
