Mardin launches project for grape syrup geographical indication
A technical support agreement has been signed to initiate the process of obtaining a geographical indication for Mardin Grape Syrup. Supported by the Dicle Development Agency (DİKA), the project is being implemented by the Mardin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Mardin TSO).
The project aims to establish the scientific, technical, and legal infrastructure required for registration. This includes field studies and situation analyses to examine production methods, raw material structures, geographical boundaries, and inspection criteria. A technical roadmap will also be developed to eventually include Mardin Grape Syrup in the European Union's geographical indication system.
The initiative is expected to combat counterfeit products, protect original production standards, and boost the city's gastronomy tourism and rural development.
