Marechal Cândido Rondon hosts Polio Zero movement to fund vaccines

The first edition of the ‘Movimento Pólio Zero’ (Polio Zero Movement) took place in Marechal Cândido Rondon, Brazil, successfully raising funds for more than 14,000 doses of the polio vaccine. The event, held at the Rodolfo Rieger Municipal Lake, served as the official launch for Rotary International’s ‘END POLIO NOW’ global campaign.

The initiative featured a 5-kilometer run and walk that brought together amateur athletes, professional runners, and families. Rather than offering individual prizes, the event focused on collective impact: each R$ 50.00 registration fee was converted into 72 vaccine doses to support the Polio Fund managed by the Rotary Foundation.

Organized by several local Rotary clubs in partnership with the Association of Runners (ACORRE) and municipal administration, the event also included environmental elements, providing participants with tree seedlings to symbolize growth and future well-being.
