Marek Eben sparks political controversy during StarDance broadcast

During a recent broadcast of the dance competition StarDance, presenter Marek Eben drew significant attention by making remarks interpreted as a political commentary. Following a parliamentary vote regarding a government proposal to abolish radio and television fees, Eben opened the show by referencing the recent events, stating, “We believe that in the end, good will triumph. The devil will take all the evil ones. It will turn out that way, perhaps not immediately, but certainly one day.”

While the audience responded with loud applause, the comments triggered a backlash from political figures. Kateřina Konečná, an MEP and chairperson of the KSČM, criticized the show on social media, labeling it part of a “propaganda machinery” for Czech Television and suggesting the program should be handled by a private broadcaster. Additionally, MP Margita Balaštíková expressed that television screens should not always serve as political platforms, noting that entertainment should sometimes be enjoyed without political messages.
