Marek Forgáč appointed as new Archbishop of Košice

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Marek Forgáč as the new Archbishop of Košice. Forgáč, who previously served as the auxiliary bishop of the Košice Archdiocese and titular bishop of Seleucia, succeeds Mons. Bernard Bober.

Bober’s resignation was accepted due to him exceeding the age of 75. He will serve as the apostolic administrator for the routine management of the archdiocese until Forgáč officially takes office. The inauguration of the new archbishop is scheduled for November 28.

Marek Forgáč was born in Košice in 1974. His background includes studies in theology at Comenius University and psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He has held various roles, including serving as a parish vicar, a spiritual administrator for a university pastoral center, and an associate dean for science and research at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University in Košice. Within the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia, he chairs the Commission for the Protection of Minors.
