Italian industry faces multiple labor disputes and restructuring crises

Several major industrial and employment disputes are unfolding across Italy. In the automotive component sector, unions representing metalworkers are demanding clarity from Marelli regarding its Chapter 11 restructuring in the United States. While the company aims for a 2026 exit, workers seek guarantees for Italian production sites and job stability.

The steel industry faces significant tension as Acciaierie d’Italia, currently in extraordinary administration, has increased the number of workers placed on redundancy schemes (cassa integrazione). Unions are calling for urgent meetings to clarify production assets and safety protocols at the Taranto plant. Antonio Gozzi, president of Federacciai, has warned that judicial rulings may be working against the interests of the Italian steel industry.

In the telecommunications sector, 350 workers at CallMat in Matera are facing potential layoffs. Labor organizations have criticized the Basilicata Region and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) for failing to intervene effectively. Additionally, in the Molise region, cleaning service workers at employment centers face job insecurity due to an expiring contract and a lack of information regarding a successor company.
