Marfin arson case: Defense challenges detention of 46-year-old suspect

The defense lawyer for a 46-year-old woman accused of involvement in the 2010 Marfin arson attack has challenged her pre-trial detention, calling the decision “forewarned and pre-arranged.” Lawyer Kostas Papadakis argues that the detention lacks a solid evidentiary basis, noting that police findings only suggest a “limited similarity” rather than a definitive identification.

Papadakis contends that the photographic evidence used to link his client to the scene had already been examined in 2022, resulting in a negative conclusion and the case being archived. He asserts that no new significant evidence has emerged to justify reopening the investigation. Furthermore, the defense claims the client was in the vicinity of the Marfin building only thirty minutes before the attack and was already near Omonoia when the incident occurred.

The lawyer also criticized the current judicial atmosphere, suggesting the decision was influenced by government communication strategies. He noted that while the client had superficial acquaintances within anarchist circles, she has no current contact with the other two individuals arrested in connection with the case.
