Marfin arson case: Prosecutor rejects 46-year-old's release appeal
A prosecutor has recommended the rejection of an appeal filed by a 46-year-old woman seeking release from pre-trial detention in connection with the fatal Marfin arson case. The woman, who is currently held at Korydallos Prison, faces charges of joint manslaughter following an arson attack that resulted in the deaths of three employees.
The defense attorney, Kostas Papadakis, has criticized the prosecutor's proposal, arguing that the evidence against his client is non-existent. He contends that the detention violates a 2022 acquittal and points to a lack of definitive identification by the Hellenic Police Forensic Directorate, which noted ‘limited support’ for the suspect's identity.
The final decision regarding the appeal will be made by the Athens Misdemeanor Court Council in the coming weeks.
