Margó-díj 2026 receives nearly double the applications of previous year

The 2026 Margó-díj has received 69 valid applications, nearly doubling the number of entries from the previous year. A team of young literary critics will select the top 10 candidates to present to the renewed jury, which includes Rita Halász, Kata Oltai, Csaba Károlyi, János Antal Horváth, and László Valuska.

The finalists will be introduced in September via Könyves Magazin, followed by an interview series with the authors. The award ceremony will take place during the Autumn Margó Literary Festival in October, featuring a special prize in collaboration with Erste Bank.

Among the applicants are Ádám Gáspár for ‘Árnyékban és fényben’, a family saga spanning from the 1930s to the regime change, and Ádám Gergő for ‘Ügynökakták’, a work utilizing pop culture codes to critique Hungarian public life.
