Marga Prohens faces criticism and political maneuvering in Balearic Islands

Marga Prohens, President of the Balearic Islands, is facing sharp criticism from cultural and environmental groups following her general policy debate in Parliament. The Obra Cultural Balear (OCB) and the GOB have denounced her administration, with OCB president Antoni Llabrés describing the current legislature as a ‘black four-year period’ for the Catalan language and culture. Critics cited regressive linguistic measures resulting from pacts between the PP and Vox, as well as a perceived failure to protect local identity and address environmental challenges.

In a separate political move, Prohens has designated Sebastià Sagreras as the People's Party (PP) candidate for the Senate for the upcoming November 29 elections. Sagreras, a key negotiator and close ally of Prohens, is seen as a strategic choice intended to mobilize party members and strengthen the PP's position. The appointment is also interpreted as a signal to Vox during ongoing negotiations regarding Senate lists.
