Marga Prohens proposes housing priority for Balearic Islands residents
Marga Prohens, President of the Balearic Islands, has proposed a new housing policy aimed at prioritizing local residents. She suggested that, by law, all newly constructed housing should be prioritized for citizens who already have established legal residency in the Balearic Islands.
Speaking at an event in Madrid, Prohens addressed several regional challenges, including rapid demographic growth and the migration crisis. She noted that the Balearic Islands represent one of the fastest-growing migratory routes in Europe, serving as a southern border for both Spain and the European Union.
Prohens emphasized the need for institutional responses to manage these pressures while respecting the Spanish Constitution and the autonomy of different regions. She advocated for the recognition of the unique insular nature of the Balearic Islands within the national framework.
