Margam Castle restoration project launches tender in Wales
Neath Port Talbot Council has launched a tender process to find a conservation architect to lead a major restoration project for Margam Castle, a Grade I-listed 19th-century Tudor revival mansion in Wales. The project, titled ‘Reimagining Margam Castle’, is estimated to be worth between £1.375 million and £1.65 million.
The appointed multidisciplinary team will serve as lead consultant, lead designer, and principal designer. The scope of work includes essential repairs to the building’s stonework, roofs, and windows to ensure it is watertight, alongside the addition of a cafe, new exhibition spaces, and accessibility upgrades.
The council has secured round one funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to cover the development phase through February 2028. The successful bidder will be responsible for developing a round two application to the NLHF to secure the full grant for the project. The tender deadline is 15 September, with an award decision expected on 10 November and work scheduled to begin in December.
