Margareth Buzetti calls protection of women a civic obligation

Senator candidate Margareth Buzetti stated that protecting women from violence should be a fundamental obligation rather than an ideological issue. Speaking in the context of Mato Grosso, a state facing high rates of domestic violence and feminicide, Buzetti clarified that she does not identify as a feminist but maintains that defending women against aggression, threats, or murder is a necessity.

Buzetti highlighted her legislative history, including the presentation of the 'Pacote Antifeminicídio' in 2023, which led to Law 14.994/2024. This law established feminicide as an autonomous crime, increased prison sentences to between 20 and 40 years, and strengthened punishments for perpetrators. She also served as a rapporteur in the Senate for projects addressing vicarious violence, where close relatives or children are used to cause suffering to women.
