Mexico announces 400,000 more high school students via scholarships

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that approximately 400,000 additional young people will enter high school this year due to the Benito Juárez and Rita Cetina scholarship programs. During an event in Colima to distribute scholarship cards, Sheinbaum emphasized the universal nature of these supports, stating they are not conditioned on academic grades to avoid creating divisions among students.

In Colima, 115,695 students are beneficiaries of the Rita Cetina and Benito Juárez programs. To support educational demand, Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado announced infrastructure expansions, including the enlargement of seven high schools in various municipalities and the construction of new campuses for the National Baccalaureate and the “Margarita Maza” program.

Nationally, the scholarship coordination reported that 19,593,000 students receive various educational supports, representing an investment exceeding 136 billion pesos. Sheinbaum also used the platform to encourage students to balance digital life with reading and social interaction to support mental health.
