Margarita Robles suggests CNI Director may testify on Ceuta migration alerts

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles has indicated that the Director of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), Esperanza Casteleiro, may appear before the Congress's official secrets commission. The appearance would address CNI alerts regarding the mass migration event in Ceuta and the role of intelligence services during the crisis.

During a Senate session, Robles expressed pride in the work of the CNI, the Armed Forces, and the Intelligence Center of the Armed Forces (Cifas). She criticized the opposition People's Party (PP), accusing them of acting against Spain to undermine the government.

Defense Ministry sources noted that not all CNI reports were made public among the 40 documents released by the government last week, stating that releasing certain communications would have been ‘irresponsible’. Meanwhile, PP Senator Fernando Martínez-Maíllo accused the government of ‘profound negligence’ and suggested that officials may eventually have to provide explanations in court.
