Margaritis Schoinas amends agricultural bill to protect 50,000 producers
Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, has announced technical improvements to Article 74 of a new bill to clarify regulations regarding agricultural subsidies. The minister stated that the amendment aims to resolve a situation affecting approximately 50,000 legitimate producers who received subsidies during a period when the state had not yet implemented forest maps.
Schoinas addressed concerns raised by the opposition regarding the potential legalization of irregular subsidies or the OPEKEPE scandal. He emphasized that the regulation does not cover illegal or fictitious activities, nor does it change eligibility criteria. He maintained that investigations into the OPEKEPE matter continue independently and that those who submitted false declarations will still face consequences.
Additionally, the minister discussed energy costs, noting a commitment to implementing cheap agricultural fuel at pumps starting November 1st.
