Margaritis Schoinas proposes network for Greek female farmers
Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, has proposed the creation of a network for Greek female farmers to strengthen communication with the Ministry. The proposal was made in observance of World Rural Women's Day during a meeting with agricultural representatives Magda Kontogianni and Anastasia Topaloglou.
The proposed network aims to serve as a permanent channel for regular discussions, allowing for the identification and recording of challenges faced by women in the primary sector. Schoinas emphasized that supporting women in agriculture is vital for addressing demographic challenges, regional development, and maintaining social cohesion in rural areas.
In an article for the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Schoinas highlighted the need for policies that bolster income, female entrepreneurship, and maternity support. He noted that the contribution of female farmers extends beyond production to include the preservation of traditions and the prevention of rural depopulation.
