Margate City Police Urge Residents to Secure Cars Amid Summer Theft Spike
Margate City Police Captain Joe Scullion, operations division commander, warned that Atlantic County in South Jersey is experiencing a surge in vehicle thefts this summer. Police investigations found that in the majority of cases the driver’s key fob was left inside the vehicle, allowing thieves to unlock and steal the cars. Scullion urged residents to remove key fobs from cars and lock their vehicles, emphasizing that such simple steps could reduce the workload on police and prevent losses. The department noted that each theft consumes significant manpower for investigations, paperwork, and follow‑up.
