Margherita Ferrari's debut film explores the 2001 Genoa G8 summit
The debut feature film by director Margherita Ferrari, titled ‘Föa – C’era una volta il futuro’, has been presented at the Alice nella Città festival. Produced by Paolo Sorrentino through his new company, Numero 10, the film explores the emotional aftermath of the 2001 G8 summit in Genoa.
Set on July 20, 2001, the narrative follows Nicole, an eighteen-year-old woman in her eighth month of pregnancy, who unexpectedly opens her apartment door to three protesters fleeing from police. The film juxtaposes the collective trauma of the G8 protests and the death of Carlo Giuliani with an intimate, personal story of connection between the characters. Rather than a strict historical reconstruction, the director describes the work as an emotional association of images that links the memories of those days to the present.
