Margherita Napoletano's Hunger Strike Suspended After Lombardy Talks

Union representative Margherita Napoletano began a hunger strike on July 24, 2026 to protest her immediate dismissal from Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan. After five days of fasting and a continuous sit‑in outside the hospital, the strike was formally suspended on July 31 following a meeting convened by Regione Lombardia. Regional Welfare Director Mario Melazzini agreed to meet the hospital’s sole administrator, Marco Centenari, to place the revocation of Napoletano’s dismissal on the agenda.

The protestors maintain a permanent presence at the hospital entrance, stating they will resume the strike if the dismissal is not withdrawn. Senator Tino Magni (Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra) has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the ministries of Labour and Social Policies, seeking clarification on the legality of the dismissal and possible anti‑union conduct.
