Margita Stefanović: The legacy of Ekatarina Velika icon

Margita Stefanović, known as Magi, was a highly influential keyboardist for the Yugoslav rock band Ekatarina Velika (EKV) and a trained architect. She passed away in Belgrade on September 18, 2002, at the age of 43.

Stefanović was a central figure in the EKV sound, contributing to all studio albums from their 1984 debut to their final release in 1993. Following the death of band leader Milan Mladenović in 1994, she continued to collaborate with other musicians and composed music for theater productions.

Her later years were marked by a struggle with heroin addiction, which led to poverty and loss of property. Actor Svetozar Cvetković, a long-time friend, described her as possessing superior intelligence and immense talent that was ultimately devastated by substance abuse and her environment.
