24 Hour Television prepares for 49th annual broadcast

Nippon Television is preparing for the 49th annual ‘24 Hour Television’ broadcast, scheduled for August 29 and 30. This year’s theme is ‘My Family Story,’ featuring Teruyoshi Uchimura as the main host alongside Shinichi Hatori and Asami Mizuto.

Actress Mari Hoshino will participate as the charity marathon runner. Hoshino, whose daughter suffers from congenital myopathy, stated she is running to create a society where all children can achieve their dreams. Former runner Hiromi offered her encouragement, advising her to focus on completing the 24-hour journey rather than racing against the clock.

The production faces several challenges, including scrutiny over past donation scandals and concerns regarding heatstroke risks for runners. Additionally, staff are reportedly navigating sensitive editorial decisions regarding the coverage of the Kumamoto earthquake and a recent explosion at an Aeon Mall in Kumamoto, given the long-standing sponsorship relationship between the broadcaster and the Aeon Group.
